The Fun Begins — Mesa 2012

If it’s March it must be time for our annual Mesa Rally! Rigs have been rolling in for several hours and I’ve lost count of how many hugs I’ve gotten and given. It’s wonderful to see so many familiar faces — and to see several new ones coming to their first Chapter 44 event.

Our co-hosts — Brenda & Bill, Pam & Gary and Sue & Bruce — have put together a wonderful week. They’ve also regaled us with tales of shopping at Costco and Walmart with the men in tow earlier this week. Of course as is usually the case, the guys have a “slightly” different version of the expedition than the gals. 🙂

Welcome to Usery Mountain

Our first stop in the park. Group camp rates are the same as last year, $15 a night.

Ah, what a handsome lot. Waiting for the first rigs to arrive.

The hosts are planning a dinner on Monday to mark the kickoff of the rally — yummy!

Co-hosts Sue, Brenda & Pam sample some of the fixin's for Monday's dinner.

Tony & Kay, who organized the Mesa Rally for many years, have kindly agreed to store much of our “rally stuff”. They arrived with tarps, flags, grill and whatever else we left with them last March.

Flags are hung, tarps are up and we're ready for the rally to begin.

The park is looking particularly lush this year. One of my favourite plants, Chuparosa, is in full bloom. Some areas are so thick with these bushes the washes look red.

Chuparosa — a favourite of hummingbirds.

  1. All our best to everyone at the Rally, wish we were there. I head back to Sudan in the morning and Dianna will be here in Yuma for another month until I get back, then we will be headed to Mississippi, Branson, Yellowstone, then back home to our lot back in Alberta. Hope to catch up with everyone sometime this summer.
