September 12 dawned bright and sunny for our excursion to Heritage Park in Calgary. About 36 members were in attendance and enjoyed a wonderful soup and sandwich lunch provided by the Selkirk Room at the park. And the final goodies were worth breaking a diet for too! A big thank you to Gloria and Dave for hosting this event.
After lunch a museum guide provided insight into the collection in Gasoline Alley. Although I have toured the exhibits several times previously, his comments certainly added a lot to our enjoyment. The history of the collection and of individual pieces adds so much to the story about early “gas” transportation. They even have some pre-gasoline transportation vehicles in the collection as well!
Ron Cary, who collected and donated many of these vehicles, did a super job of restoring many of them to pristine condition. Other vehicles have been left “as found” to show what he started with in many instances.
Thanks to Sharon, Bill and Sally for the pictures.
